This Sunday is called “Palm Sunday”
Palm trees grow in warm countries and have big fan-like leaves.
Talk about :
- Have you ever been in a crowd watching a parade?
- It’s exciting to be part of a crowd who are happy and enjoying a parade and joining in as it goes past.
The story of Jesus riding a donkey into Jerusalem.
The Jewish folk were looking for the promised King, the Messiah, who would save them.
Jesus and his friends were walking to Jerusalem, for a special festival called the Passover.
At the village of Bethany, he asked two of his friends to go and fetch the young donkey that they would find tied up there. If anyone asks, “Why are you untying the donkey?” Say “the Lord needs him.”
They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it.
Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted,
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
They were happy because their Rescuer/ Messiah had come. They praised him as their King who would save them.
It must have been very exciting to be a there that day, waving palm leaves and shouting and singing being part of celebration party.
Make some palm leaves by drawing around your hand on green paper. You may need to use paint or crayon, if you don’t have green paper. Cut the hands out and glue them on to a stick or a piece of cardboard and wave them and shout “Jesus is King. Hosanna! Hallelujah!”
Thank you, God, for sending your son Jesus to teach us how to live in your love.
Please help us to show your love to others.
