Vocations Sunday                            ISAIAH week 0

Welcome

Call to Worship: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty: The whole Earth is full of His glory!

First Hymn:  157 God has spoken – by his prophets

God has spoken – by his prophets

Prayers                                                          THE LORD’S PRAYER

Second Hymn: 155 Come Holy spirit, our heart inspire SECOND TUNE = RICHMOND

Come Holy Ghost, our hearts inspire

First Reading: Isaiah 6 and  Isaiah 41:1-6 and 8-13 The Helper of Israel

First Reflection: First Isaiah’s calling: to prophesy to a deaf nation of God’s judgment.

THEN another vision with a very different theme:

The broadness of God’s embrace: to whisper to a kingdom which had lost its monarchy of a king that was still to come; of an inconceivable kingdom that was to reign without the use of fear or violence.

Third Hymn:  162 The prophets’ voices come down the years

Second Reading: Isaiah 1:1-4

Second Reflection: This is the other, better known theme of Isaiah: urgent and terrible in that it charges the people with breaking the covenant with God. I God constantly makes a new covenant with his people, which they then break, surely sooner or later he will try a different way to get them to honestly agree to keep it?

Fourth Hymn: 160 Powerful in making us wise to temptation
